কঙ্গোতে যাত্রীবোঝায় নৌকা ডুবে অন্তত ৬০ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। এই ঘটনায় নিখোঁজ রয়েছেন আরও কয়েকশ মানুষ। গণতান্ত্রিক প্রজাতন্ত্র কঙ্গোর মানবিক বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী সোমবার জানিয়েছেন, ওই নৌকায় ৭০০ এর বেশি যাত্রী ছিলেন।
মানবিক সহায়তা বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী স্টিভ বিকায়ি টুইটবার্তায় জানিয়েছে, দেশের পশ্চিমাঞ্চলে মাই নম্বি প্রদেশের লংগোলা গ্রামের কাছে এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এতে ৩০০ জনকে জীবিত উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া ২৪০ জনের এখনো খোঁজ পাওয়া যায়নি। খবর রয়টার্সের
রবিবার রাতে নৌকাটি কিনশাসা থেকে এমবান্ডাকার দিকে রওয়ানা হয়েছিল। ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ নৌকা ব্যবহার করা এবং অতিরিক্ত যাত্রী ও মালামাল তোলার কারণে এ ঘটনা ঘটেছে। রাতের বেলা নৌকা চালনাও এই দুর্ঘটনার অন্যতম কারণ বলে মনে করেন মন্ত্রী।
কঙ্গোতে নৌকা দুর্ঘটনার ঘটনা সাধারণ। দেশটির বেশিরভাগ মানুষের দীর্ঘ ভ্রমণের জন্য নদীপথই একমাত্র মাধ্যম। বিশাল বনাঞ্চলজুড়ে কয়েকটি নদীপথ রয়েছে, যেখানে প্রায়শই নৌকাডুবির ঘটনা ঘটে।
