বাগেরহাটের রামপালে একটি বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠান থেকে বাড়ি ফেরার পথে বাস ও মাইক্রোবাসের মুখোমুখি সংঘর্ষে ৪ শিশুসহ অন্তত ১৩ জন নিহত হয়েছেন।
আজ বৃহস্পতিবার (১২ মার্চ) বিকেলে উপজেলার খুলনা-মোংলা মহাসড়কের শ্যাওলাবুনিয়া এলাকায় বেলাই ব্রিজের কাছে এই মর্মান্তিক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে। এ ঘটনায় আরও অন্তত ১৫ জন আহত হয়েছেন।
হাসপাতাল সূত্রে জানা গেছে, নিহতদের মধ্যে ৮ জনের মরদেহ খুলনা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হয়েছে। বাকি কয়েকজনের মরদেহ রামপাল উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে রাখা হয়েছে।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীর একটি বাসের সঙ্গে যাত্রীবাহী একটি মাইক্রোবাসের মুখোমুখি সংঘর্ষ হলে ঘটনাস্থলেই তিন নারীসহ ১২ জনের মৃত্যু হয়। পরে হাসপাতালে নেওয়ার পথে আরও একজনের মৃত্যু হলে নিহতের সংখ্যা বেড়ে ১৩ জনে দাঁড়ায়। দুর্ঘটনায় অন্তত ১৫ জন গুরুতর আহত হন।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, দ্রুতগতিতে চলাচলের সময় দুই যানবাহনের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ হলে মাইক্রোবাসটি দুমড়ে-মুচড়ে যায়। এতে হতাহতের ঘটনা ঘটে। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ ও ফায়ার সার্ভিসের সদস্যরা ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে উদ্ধার অভিযান শুরু করেন।
আহতদের উদ্ধার করে রামপাল উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্স ও খুলনা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, আহতদের মধ্যে কয়েকজনের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক হওয়ায় নিহতের সংখ্যা আরও বাড়তে পারে বলে আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে। দুর্ঘটনার পর পুরো এলাকায় শোকের ছায়া নেমে এসেছে।
