টি–টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপে সুপার এইট পর্বে নিজেদের প্রথম ম্যাচেই ভারতকে বড় ব্যবধানে হারিয়ে দুর্দান্ত সূচনা করেছে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল। ১৮৭ রানের লক্ষ্য তাড়া করতে নেমে ভারত জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল গুটিয়ে যায় মাত্র ১১১ রানে। ফলে ৭৬ রানের বিশাল ব্যবধানে জয় তুলে নেয় প্রোটিয়ারা।
এই হার টি–টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপে রানের হিসাবে ভারতের ইতিহাসে সবচেয়ে বড় পরাজয়। এর আগে ২০১০ সালের বিশ্বকাপে ব্রিজটাউনে অস্ট্রেলিয়া জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল-এর বিপক্ষে ৪৯ রানে হারই ছিল ভারতের সবচেয়ে বড় পরাজয়।
দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার ছুঁড়ে দেওয়া ১৮৭ রানের লক্ষ্য তাড়া করতে নেমে শুরু থেকেই চাপে পড়ে ভারত। নিয়মিত বিরতিতে উইকেট হারাতে থাকায় বড় জুটির দেখা পায়নি তারা। শেষ পর্যন্ত নির্ধারিত ওভার শেষ হওয়ার আগেই ১১১ রানে অলআউট হয়ে যায় দলটি।
অন্যদিকে এই জয়ের মাধ্যমে টি–টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপে টানা পঞ্চম জয় তুলে নিল দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা। সুপার এইট পর্বে দাপুটে জয় দিয়ে তারা আবারও নিজেদের শিরোপা দাবিদার হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠা করল।
উল্লেখ্য, ২০২২ টি–টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপের সেমিফাইনালে ইংল্যান্ড জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল-এর কাছে হারের পর এই প্রথম বহুজাতিক টুর্নামেন্টে পরাজয়ের স্বাদ পেল ভারত। মাঝে ২২ ম্যাচে ২১ জয় ও একটি পরিত্যক্ত ম্যাচ নিয়ে দুর্দান্ত ফর্মে ছিল দলটি।
