দেশ ও জাতি বর্তমান সরকারের হাত ধরে গণতান্ত্রিক পথে এগিয়ে যাবে বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন সেনাপ্রধান জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান।
বৃহস্পতিবার (১২ মার্চ) সন্ধ্যায় যুদ্ধাহত বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সম্মানে আয়োজিত এক ইফতার অনুষ্ঠানে তিনি এ মন্তব্য করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য দিতে গিয়ে সেনাপ্রধান বলেন, গত ১৮ মাস ধরে সেনাবাহিনী একটি বিশেষ সময় অতিক্রম করেছে। এই সময় দেশের বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্ষেত্রে বাহিনীর সদস্যরা দায়িত্ব পালন করে উল্লেখযোগ্য ভূমিকা রেখেছেন বলেও তিনি উল্লেখ করেন।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধে শহিদদের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করে তিনি বলেন, সেনাবাহিনী সবসময় মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের দেখানো পথ অনুসরণ করে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে।
অনুষ্ঠান শেষে সেনাপ্রধান যুদ্ধাহত বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সঙ্গে কুশল বিনিময় করেন এবং তাদের সঙ্গে ইফতারে অংশ নেন।
