নোয়াখালীর জেলা শহর মাইজদীতে আওয়ামী লীগ ও বিএনপির মধ্যে ধাওয়া পাল্টা-ধাওয়া ও সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এ সময় পুলিশের গাড়ি লক্ষ করে ইটপাটকেল ছুড়লে পুলিশের ৮ সদস্যসহ ১১ জন আহত হন। এ ঘটনায় অন্তত ৩৩ জনকে আটক করেছে পুলিশ।
মঙ্গলবার বিকাল ৫ টায় জেলা আওয়ামী লীগ কার্যালয়ের সামনের প্রধান সড়কে এ ঘটনা ঘটে।
পুলিশ ও স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, বিকালে জেলা আওয়ামী লীগ কার্যালয়ের সামনে বিএনপির দেশব্যাপী চলমান বিক্ষোভের প্রতিবাদে সমাবেশ করছিল আওয়ামী লীগ। এ সময় বিএনপির একটি মিছিল বড় মসজিদ মোড় হয়ে প্রেসক্লাবে বিএনপি আয়োজিত সমাবেশস্থলে আসার সময় আওয়ামী লীগের সমাবেশ ও পুলিশকে লক্ষ করে ইটপাটকেল নিক্ষেপ করে। এ সময় উভয়পক্ষের মধ্যে ধাওয়া পাল্টা ধাওয়ার ঘটনার ঘটে। বিএনপি নেতা কর্মীদের ছোড়া ইটের আঘাতে পুলিশের ৮ সদস্যসহ অন্তত ১১ জন আহত হন ও সুধারাম থানার ওসির গাড়ি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। পরে শহরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে অভিযান চালিয়ে বিএনপির ৩৩ নেতাকর্মীকে আটক করে পুলিশ।
নোয়াখালী পুলিশ সুপার (এসপি) মো. শহীদুল ইসলাম বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে জানান, বিএনপির হামলায় পুলিশের কয়েকজন সদস্য আহত হয় ও একটি গাড়ি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। পুলিশ পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনতে ৮ রাউন্ড শটগানের ফাঁকাগুলি ছোড়ে।
