ঢাকা ওয়াসার নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকা ঢাকার ২৬টি খালের দায়িত্ব আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ঢাকা উত্তর ও দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশনকে হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।
বৃহস্পতিবার সকালে রাজধানীর একটি হোটেলে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে এই দায়িত্ব হস্তান্তর করেন স্থানীয় সরকার, পল্লী উন্নয়ন ও সমবায় মন্ত্রণালয়ের মন্ত্রী মো. তাজুল ইসলাম।
সমঝোতা স্মারক সইয়ের মাধ্যমে ঢাকা শহরের জলাবদ্ধতা নিরসনের এই দায়িত্ব ঢাকার দুই সিটির কাছে হস্তান্তর করে ঢাকা ওয়াসা।
স্থানীয় সরকার বিভাগের সচিব হেলালুদ্দীন আহমদের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি ছিলেন উত্তর সিটি মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম এবং দক্ষিণ সিটি মেয়র শেখ ফজলে নূর তাপস।
এই দায়িত্ব হস্তান্তরের মাধ্যমে রাজধানীর খালগুলোর বর্জ্য পরিষ্কার, বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা, খাল উদ্ধার, খালের পাড় বাধাই, ওয়াকওয়ে নির্মাণ, সবুজায়নের দায়িত্ব ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশন (ডিএনসিসি) এবং ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএসসিসি) অর্পিত হলো।
