যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পররাষ্ট্র দপ্তরের এক বিবৃতিতে বলা হয়, মার্কিন পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী অ্যান্টনি ব্লিনকেন চীনের পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ওয়াং ইর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছেন। তাইওয়ানের ওপর পিআরসির সামরিক, কূটনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক চাপ অব্যাহত রাখার ব্যাপারে গভীর উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেছেন ব্লিংকেন।
ওয়াশিংটন সময় সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় প্রেসিডেন্ট জো বাইডেন ও চীনের প্রেসিডেন্ট শি জিনপিংয়ের মধ্যে ভার্চুয়াল বৈঠকের কথা রয়েছে।
ব্লিনকেন ও ওয়াং এ বৈঠকের প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে শুক্রবার কথা বলেন। এদিকে মার্কিন এ মন্ত্রী আন্ত:প্রণালী সংক্রান্ত বিভিন্ন ইস্যু শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে সমাধানে এবং তাইওয়ানের জনগণের আকাক্ষা ও বৃহত্তর স্বার্থ অক্ষুন্ন রেখে একটি অর্থবহ সংলাপে অংশগ্রহণে বেইজিংয়ের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছে।
তাইওয়ানকে কেন্দ্র করে বিশ্বের বৃহত্তম অর্থনীতির এ দুই দেশের মধ্যে সম্পর্কের অবনতি ঘটেছে। কেননা, চীন তাইওয়ানকে তাদের ভূখন্ডের অংশ দাবি করে আসছে। স্ব-শাসিত তাইওয়ান নিজেদের স্বাধীন দেশ হিসেবে দাবি করে আসছে।
