গত কয়েকদিনের টানা বর্ষণ ও উজান থেকে নেমে আসা আসা পাহাড়ি ঢলে সিরাজগঞ্জের যমুনা নদীতে গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় ৪৬ সেন্টিমিটার পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। তবে এখনো পানি বিপদসীমার ১ দশমিক ৪১ মিটার নিচ দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে। তবে ইতিমধ্যে অনেক নিচু এলাকা আংশিক প্লাবিত হয়েছে।
সিরাজগঞ্জ পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী মো. শফিকুল ইসলাম জানান, যমুনায় পানি বৃদ্ধি অব্যাহত থাকায় জেলার চরাঞ্চল ও নদীতীরবর্তী নিম্ন এলাকা প্লাবিত হতে শুরু করেছে। এছাড়া জেলার সদর, চৌহালী, শাহজাদপুর ও কাজিপুরের উপজেলার বেশ কিছু এলাকায় ভাঙন শুরু হয়েছে।
প্রকৌশলী মো. শফিকুল ইসলাম বলেন, টানা বৃষ্টিপাত ও উজান থেকে আসা পাহাড়ি ঢলে গত কয়েক দিন ধরেই যমুনা নদীর পানি বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। আগামী কয়েক দিন যদি পানি এভাবেই বৃদ্ধি পেতে থাকে তাহলে বিপদসীমা অতিক্রম করতে পারে।
