চুয়াডাঙ্গায় করোনা শনাক্ত হওয়ায় লজ্জা ও ঘৃণায় এক রোগী আত্মহত্যা করেছেন।
রোববার ভোরে নিজ ঘরে গলায় ফাঁস দিয়ে তিনি আত্মহত্যা করেন।
নিহত আবদুর রাজ্জাক আলমডাঙ্গা উপজেলার গড়গড়ি গ্রামের সাহাজ উদ্দিন মণ্ডলের ছেলে। তিনি পেশায় একজন গরু ব্যবসায়ী ছিলেন।
সম্প্রতি তার করোনা শনাক্ত হওয়ায় লজ্জা ও ঘৃণায় আবদুর রাজ্জাক আত্মহত্যা করেন বলে এলাকাবাসী জানান।
জানা গেছে, আবদুর রাজ্জাক সম্প্রতি ঠাণ্ডা জ্বরে আক্রান্ত হলে চিকিৎসকের শরণাপণ্ন হন। পরীক্ষা করা হলে গত ১৬ জুন তার করোনা রিপোর্ট পজিটিভ আসে। ডাক্তারের পরামর্শে তিনি বাড়িতে চিকিৎসাধীন ছিলেন।
আবদুর রাজ্জাকের স্ত্রী ময়না খাতুন জানান, করোনা শনাক্ত হওয়ার পর আমার স্বামী মানসিকভাবে খুব ভেঙে পড়ে। কিন্তু সে শারীরিকভাবে সুস্থই ছিল। সে আলাদা ঘরে ছিল ঠিকই; কিন্তু আমি সবসময় দেখভাল করতাম। ভোরেও তার কাশির শব্দ শুনতে পাই। কিন্তু সকালে তাকে ডাকতে গিয়ে দেখি ঘরের আড়ায় ফাঁস দিয়ে সে ঝুলছে।
স্থানীয় ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান আমিনুল হক রোকন জানান, করোনা শনাক্ত হলে ১৭ জুন তার বাড়িতে লাল পতাকা টাঙিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। আজ সকালে আত্মহত্যার খবর পেয়ে আমি তার বাড়িতে যাই এবং পুলিশে খবর দিই।
আমার ধারণা, গরু ব্যবসায়ী আবদুর রাজ্জাক সামাজিকভাবে হেয় প্রতিপন্ন হওয়ার কারণে লজ্জা ও ঘৃণায় আত্মহত্যা করেছে।
