স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম, গণতন্ত্রের লড়াই ও জুলাই যুদ্ধ—সবকিছুই একুশের চেতনা থেকে উৎপন্ন হয়েছে বলে মনে করেন বিএনপি মহাসচিব এবং স্থানীয় সরকার, পল্লী উন্নয়ন ও সমবায় মন্ত্রী মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর।
শুক্রবার (২০ ফেব্রুয়ারি) রাতে কেন্দ্রীয় শহিদ মিনারে ভাষা আন্দোলনের শহিদদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করার আগে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি বলেন, দীর্ঘদিন পর আমরা মুক্ত বাংলাদেশে একটা মুক্ত পরিবেশে আজকে আমাদের শহিদদের স্মরণ করতে এসেছি। নিঃসন্দেহে একুশের চেতনাতেই আমাদের স্বাধীনতা এবং পরবর্তী সংগ্রাম, আমাদের গণতন্ত্রের সংগ্রাম, জুলাই যুদ্ধ- সবকিছুই একুশের চেতনা থেকে উৎপত্তি হয়েছে বলে আমরা মনে করি। সে কারণে এই একুশ আমাদের জন্য নিঃসন্দেহে একটা প্রেরণা হয়ে আসবে।
স্থানীয় সরকার মন্ত্রী আরও বলেন, আজকে যে চ্যালেঞ্জগুলো আমাদের সমান আসছে—অর্থনীতিকে সচল করা, রাজনীতিকে আরও সংহত করা—এসব কাজগুলোয় আমরা একুশের চেতনাকে ধারণ করে সক্ষম হবো বলে আমি বিশ্বাস করি।
