সাকিবকে রেখেই দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সফরের জন্য দল ঘোষণা করে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি)। কিন্তু সফরে যাওয়ার ঠিক আগমুহূর্তে রোববার হঠাৎ দুবাই চলে যান সাকিব।
দেশ ছাড়ার আগে বলে যান- আমি শারীরিক ও মানসিকভাবে যে অবস্থায় আছি, মনে হয় না আমার পক্ষে এই মুহূর্তে (দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায়) আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট খেলা সম্ভব।
মঙ্গলবার এ ব্যাপারে জাতীয় দলের টিম ডিরেক্টর খালেদ মাহমুদ সুজন বলেন, একটা ক্রিকেটার ছুটি চাইতেই পারে। কিন্তু ব্যাপারটা হলো চিঠি দিয়েছিল বিরতির। এরপর পাপন ভাইয়ের সঙ্গে কথা বলে টেস্ট ও ওয়ানডেতে খেলতে চেয়েছে। এরপর আবার কেন চেঞ্জ হলো সেটা বুঝলাম না। এটা সাকিবই বলতে পারবে। ওর মনের কথা তো আর আমি বলতে পারব না।
সুজন আরও বলেন, সাকিব সফরে না যেতে চাইলে ভালো। না গেলে সেভাবে চিন্তা করতে হবে। এটা বড় ব্যাপার না। কারও জন্য বাংলাদেশ দল বসে থাকবে না। এটা ভাবা ভুল। সে আমাদের খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্রিকেটার ঠিক আছে। দুই-তিন বছর পর সাকিব-তামিমদের ছাড়াই খেলতে হবে। এটাই তো স্বাভাবিক। এটা একটা প্রসেসের মধ্যে যাবে। আমরা চাই সেরা ক্রিকেটাররা খেলুক। খেলা-না খেলা একদম ক্রিকেটারের ওপর ছেড়ে দেওয়া ঠিক না।
তিনি আরও বলেন, সাকিবকে ছাড়াই টিম করছি এখন। তারা আমাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্রিকেটার। কিন্তু তারা না খেললে যে দেশের ক্রিকেট বন্ধ হয়ে যাবে তা না। জোর করে তো কাউকে খেলানো যাবে না। তাদের জায়গায় অন্য যারা সুযোগ পাবে তাদের জন্য বড় সুযোগ হবে।
