সৌদি আরবের শীর্ষস্থানীয় সেনা কমান্ডার (বহিষ্কৃত) জেনারেল ফাহাদ বিন তুর্কি আব্দুল আজিজকে মৃত্যুদণ্ডাদেশ দেন দেশটির আদালত। মৃত্যুদণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত এই জেনারেলের স্বজনদের বরাত দিয়ে প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশ করেছে পার্সিয়ান গালফ স্টাডিজ সেন্টার।
ওই প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, ফাহাদ বিন তুর্কি ইয়েমেনে চলমান আগ্রাসনে নেতৃত্বদানকারী জেনারেলদের অন্যতম। সৌদি বাদশাহ সালমান, যুবরাজ মুহাম্মাদ বিন সালমান ও প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রীকে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করার ষড়যন্ত্রের দায়ে তার বিচার করা হয়েছে। এই বিচারে তাকে মৃত্যুদণ্ডের আদেশ দেয়া হয়েছে।
জেনারেল ফাহাদ বিন তুর্কি আব্দুল আজিজকে তার ছেলেসহ গ্রেপ্তার করা হয় গত বছরের সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে। তিনি ১৯৮৩ সালে সৌদি সেনাবাহিনীতে যোগ দেন। এরপর মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও ব্রিটেনে বিশেষ সামরিক প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণ করেন। বহিষ্কার ও গ্রেপ্তারের আগে গত বছর জেনারেল পদে উন্নীত হন।
এই জেনারেলের ছেলেদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যাপক দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ ছিল। রাজধানী রিয়াদের অন্তত ১০০টি আবাসন প্রকল্প পরিচালনা করছিল তারা। ব্যাপক দুর্নীতির কারণে ২০১৪ সালে তার ছেলেদের গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
