দেশে গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় করোনাভাইরাসে আরও ৯৬ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে, যা একদিনে সর্বোচ্চ মৃত্যুর রেকর্ড। গত বছর দেশে করোনা সংক্রমণের পর এতো মৃত্যু আর দেখা যায়নি। এ নিয়ে দেশে মোট ৯ হাজার ৯৮৭ জনের মৃত্যু হলো করোনায়।
বুধবার বিকালে পাঠানো সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তর আরও জানাচ্ছে, গত একদিনে সরকারি ও বেসরকারি ২৫৫টি ল্যাবরেটরি ২৪ হাজার ৯৯৫টি নমুনা সংগ্রহ ও ২৪ হাজার ৮২৫টি নমুনা পরীক্ষা করা হয়। নমুনা পরীক্ষায় পাঁচ হাজার ১৮৫ জন নতুন রোগী শনাক্ত হয়েছেন। এ নিয়ে মোট শনাক্তকৃত রোগীর সংখ্যা দাঁড়িয়েছে সাত লাখ ১ হাজার ৩৭০ জন। আর গত একদিনে সুস্থ হয়েছেন ৫ হাজার ৩৩৩ জন।
দেশে গত বছরের ৮ মার্চ প্রথম করোনা রোগী শনাক্ত হয়। এর ১০ দিন পর ১৮ মার্চ প্রথম মৃত্যুর খবর আসে। কয়েক মাস সংক্রমণ ও মৃত্যুর হার ঊর্ধ্বগতিতে থাকার পর অনেকটা নিয়ন্ত্রণে চলে আসে। চলতি বছরের শুরুতে করোনাভাইরাসের প্রকোপ অনেকটা নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকলেও মার্চ মাস থেকে তা শুধুই বাড়ছে। বিশেষজ্ঞরা এটাকে বাংলাদেশে করোনার ‘দ্বিতীয় ঢেউ’ বলছেন। করোনা সংক্রমণ মারাত্মক আকার ধারণ করায় আজ বুধবার থেকে সর্বাত্মক লকডাউন ঘোষণা করেছে সরকার।
