আফ্রিকা থেকে মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে যাওয়ার পথে এডেন সাগরে শরণার্থীবাহী নৌকাডুবির ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এতে অন্তত ৩৪ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে রয়টার্স ও আল জাজিরা।
খবরে বলা হয়েছে, স্থানীয় সময় সোমবার ভোরে এডেন সাগরের জিবুতি উপকূলে অতিরিক্ত যাত্রীবোঝাই নৌকাটি ডুবে যায়। অভিবাসনবিষয়ক সংস্থা (আইওএম) বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছে।
আইওএম এর আঞ্চলিক পরিচালক কর্মকর্তা মোহাম্মদ আবদিকের জানিয়েছেন, ইয়েমেন থেকে দালালদের মাধ্যমে ৬০ যাত্রী নিয়ে নৌকাটি এডেন উপসাগরের জিবুতির উপকূলে ডুবে যায়। এতে নারী ও শিশুসহ ৩৪ জন মারা যান।
তিনি বলেন, অভিবাসীদের দুর্বলতা কাজে লাগানো পাচারকারী ও চোরাচালানকারীদের বিচারের বিষয়কে অগ্রাধিকার দিতে হবে। তাদের কারণে অনেক লোক প্রাণ হারান।
জীবিত উদ্ধার হওয়া ব্যক্তিদের স্থানীয় কর্তৃপক্ষ ও আইওএম প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দিয়েছে।
ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, করোনাভাইরাস সংক্রমণ বিধিনিষেধ ও কড়াকড়ির কারণে তারা সৌদি আরবে প্রবেশে ব্যর্থ হয়। এরপর ইয়েমেনে আটকা পড়ে, সেখান থেকে ফেরার পথে নৌকাডুবির ঘটনা ঘটে।
