ভারতের মধ্যপ্রদেশের সিধি জেলায় যাত্রীবাহী একটি বাস সেতু থেকে খালে পড়ে ৩৮ জন নিহত হয়েছে। ভারতীয় গণমাধ্যম এনডিটিভির খবরে বলা হয়েছে, সোমবার সকাল সাড়ে আটটার দিকে সিধি জেলা সদর থেকে ৮০ কিলোমিটার দূরে এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
খবরে বলা হয়, বাসটিতে ৩২ জনের আসন থাকা সত্ত্বেও ৫০ জনের বেশি যাত্রী ছিল। বাসটি নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে সেতু থেকে সোজা খালে পড়ে যায়। দুর্ঘটনার খবর পেয়ে উদ্ধারকারী দল সেখানে যায়। একে একে মোট ৩৮টি মৃতদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়।
মধ্যপ্রদেশের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শিবরাজ সিং চৌহানের নির্দেশে দুটি প্রতিনিধি দল সিধি জেলার দুর্ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়েছে। ফোনে তাদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করে প্রতি মুহূর্তের খবর নিচ্ছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
জেলা পুলিশ সুপার ধর্মবীর সিং এএফপিকে জানান, নিহতের মধ্যে সাতজন নারী, একজন শিশু ও বাকি ২০ জন পুরুষ। নিহতদের ময়নাতদন্ত করতে লাশ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি এক টুইট বার্তায় দুর্ঘটনায় নিহতদের পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর শোক জানিয়েছেন। স্থানীয় প্রশাসন উদ্ধার কাজ পরিচালনা করছে বলেও জানান তিনি।
