আরব অঞ্চলগুলতো ধীরে ধীরে বাড়ছে বেকারত্ব ও দরিদ্রতার হার। এই অঞ্চলে গড়ে ২০২১ সালে বেকারত্বের হার দাঁড়াবে ১২.৫ শতাংশে। জাতিসংঘের পশ্চিম এশিয়ার অর্থনৈতিক ও সামাজিক কমিশন এক প্রতিবেদনে এমন তথ্য জানিয়েছে।
প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, আরব অঞ্চলে সবচেয়ে বেশি বেকারত্ব ফিলিস্তিনে। সেখানে আগামী বছর বেকারত্ব বেড়ে দাঁড়াবে ৩১ শতাংশে। এছাড়া লিবিয়ায় বেকারত্ব হবে ২২ শতাংশ। এছড়া জর্ডান ও তিউনিসিয়ায় ২১ শতাংশ এবং উপসাগরীয় সহযোগীতা কাউন্সিলের (জিসিসি) দেশগুলোতে এই হার দাঁড়াবে ৫.৮ শতাংশ। খবর আরবটাইমস অনলাইনের
তবে প্রতিবেদনে দেশগুলোর প্রবৃদ্ধির ব্যাপারে ইতিবাচক তথ্য দেয়া হয়েছে। সেখানে বলা হয়েছে, ২০২০ সালে এই অঞ্চলের রফতানি ৫০ শতাংশ কমে গেলেও ২০২১ সালে এটি ১০.৪ শতাংশ বৃদ্ধি পাবে। প্রতিবেদনের প্রধান লেখক মোহাম্মদ হেদি বছির বলেন, ‘আরব অঞ্চলে যে সংকট দেখা দিয়েছে তা অর্থনৈতিক ক্ষেত্র ছাড়িয়ে বড় সামাজিক চ্যালেঞ্জ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে।’
হেদি বছির বলেন, এই অঞ্চলে দরিদ্রতার হার ক্রমবর্ধমান। ২০২১ সালে এটি গড়ে ৩২ শতাংশে পৌঁছাতে পারে। যা মোট ১১৬ মিলিয়ন (১১ কোটি ৬০ লাখ) মানুষের ওপর প্রভাব ফেলবে। আরব অঞ্চলে যুব বেকারত্ব বাড়ছে। যা আগামী বছর গড়ে ২৭ শতাংশে পৌঁছাতে পারে।
