নয় বছর ধরে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিপক্ষে ওয়ানডে সিরিজ জয়ের রেকর্ড নেই অস্ট্রেলিয়ার। সর্বশেষ ২০১৪ সালে প্রোটিয়াদের বিপক্ষে ওয়ানডে সিরিজ জিতেছিলো অজিরা। ঘরের মাঠে পাঁচ ম্যাচ সিরিজ ৪-১ ব্যবধানে জিতেছিলো অস্ট্রেলিয়া।
দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিপক্ষে সিরিজ জয়ের বন্ধ্যাত্ব ঘোচানোর দ্বারপ্রান্তে অস্ট্রেলিয়া। এবার দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সফরে ওয়ানডে সিরিজের প্রথম দুই ম্যাচ যথাক্রমে- ৩ উইকেটে ও ১২৩ রানে জিতেছে অজিরা। তৃতীয় ওয়ানডে জিতলেই ২০১৪ সালের পর দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিপক্ষে ওযানডে সিরিজ জয়ের স্বাদ নিবে অস্ট্রেলিয়া।
তৃতীয় ওয়ানডেতেই সিরিজের ফয়সালা করতে চান অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত অধিনায়ক মিচেল মার্শ। তিনি বলেন, ‘প্রথম দুই ম্যাচ জিতে আমরা সিরিজ জয়ের দ্বারপ্রান্তে। জয়ের ধারা অব্যাহত রেখে তৃতীয় ম্যাচেই সিরিজ নিশ্চিত করতে চাই।’
