মেট্রোরেলে এক বা দুই স্টেশন আগে উঠে আসন দখল করে রাখার (লুপ রাইডিং) অভিযোগ উঠেছে কিছু যাত্রীর বিরুদ্ধে। তাই সিট দখল ঠেকাতে মতিঝিল স্টেশনে নতুন নিয়ম চালু করেছে ঢাকা ম্যাস ট্রানজিট কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (ডিএমটিসিএল)।
উত্তরাগামী যাত্রীদের অভিযোগ, একশ্রেণির যাত্রী উত্তরা থেকে ছেড়ে আসা মতিঝিলগামী ট্রেনে উঠে পড়েন। তারা মতিঝিল স্টেশনে নামার বদলে সিটে বসেই থাকেন এবং একই ট্রেনে আবার উত্তরার দিকে যাত্রা শুরু করেন। এর ফলে সচিবালয় বা শাহবাগ স্টেশন থেকে যারা ওঠেন, তারা কোনো আসন খালি পান না।
ঢাকা মেট্রোরেলের অপারেশন প্রধান মো. নজরুল ইসলাম গণমাধ্যমকে জানান, ট্রেনের সংখ্যা বাড়ানো হয়েছে এবং মতিঝিল স্টেশনে ট্রেন ঘোরানোর (টার্নঅ্যারাউন্ড) পদ্ধতিতে পরিবর্তন আনা হয়েছে।
তিনি বলেন, আগে একটি ট্রেন মতিঝিল আসার পর প্ল্যাটফর্ম পরিবর্তন করে আবার ছেড়ে যেত। এখন ট্রেনের সংখ্যা বাড়ানোয় যাত্রীরা সরাসরি মতিঝিল থেকেই নতুন ট্রেনে উঠতে পারবেন।
কোনো যাত্রী মতিঝিল পৌঁছানোর পর ওই একই ট্রেনে বসে থেকে ফিরতি যাত্রা করতে পারবেন না। তাকে অবশ্যই ট্রেন থেকে নামতে হবে এবং অন্য প্ল্যাটফর্মে গিয়ে নতুন ট্রেনে উঠতে হবে বলেও জানান তিনি।
তিনি আরও বলেন, আমরা অনুমোদিত সময় কমিয়ে দিয়েছি। যদি কোনো যাত্রী নির্ধারিত সময়ের বেশি প্ল্যাটফর্ম বা সিস্টেমের ভেতরে অবস্থান করেন, তবে তাকে জরিমানার মুখে পড়তে হতে পারে।
